Western Sydney International Airport chooses Lagardère to run retail offer
Bunnings launches AI assistant Buddy to enhance customer experience
Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has appointed Lagardère Travel Retail as its retail operator for the next decade, marking a major development in Australia’s travel retail sector. The agreement covers duty-free, travel essentials and specialty retail across the airport terminal.

Why this partnership matters for travel retail
Under the agreement, Lagardère will manage around 3,100 square metres of retail space across 11 stores, including 1,900 square metres for duty-free and 1,000 square metres for travel essentials and specialty retail across international and domestic zones.
The partnership also reflects a wider shift in travel retail, as airports increasingly look to combine convenience, strong brand mix and destination identity in one retail environment.

A retail offer shaped by local identity and traveller needs
WSI said the retail concept will include branded and travel-exclusive products, alongside a “best of the west” approach designed to highlight Western Sydney. Airport leadership also noted that convenience, value and last-minute purchases were key priorities in shaping the offer.
Retail fit-out to begin ahead of launch
WSI is on track to launch cargo operations in late July, followed by domestic and international passenger services in late October. Retail fit-outs are expected to begin in the coming weeks.

What This Means for Retail
The WSI–Lagardère partnership shows how airports are becoming more important retail destinations, where operations, customer experience and local relevance all need to work together. As travel retail grows, partnerships like this will play a bigger role in shaping future retail environments.
